The animal feed factory
The animal feed factory is the fulcrum around which the carefully supervised and controlled feeding in Saipa farms rotates. Three different ranges are produced: OGM free feeds, organic feeds and extruded feeds.
In addition to producing organic and OGM free feeds for the company and for third party businesses (Saipa supplies this type of animal feed to large companies on a national level that are unable to produce it themselves), for some years now it has also been producing special feeds for aquaculture, and animal biscuits. The decision to start producing organic animal feeds dates back to thirteen years ago, and then led to the decision to work only with OGM free products, which are naturally those used in our farms as well. The analyses and strict quality controls have allowed us to obtain two key certificates: IMC (the Mediterranean Certification Institute) for organic products, and the CSQA agri-food quality certification for OGM free feeds. The raw material we process is one hundred percent Italian– amongst other things, Saipa manages over one thousand hectares of organically farmed land –, except for the Soya from Brazil, but every batch is subjected to severe checks and analyses to rule out the possibility of any kind of contamination. 2005 also saw the start of production of a range of extruded animal feeds that are pre-cooked at 120°. This technique ensures they are particularly easy to digest and assimilate: they are feeds for sea and fresh water fish.
